The vote for health care reform has come and gone, but the fury left in its path – one that has shattered the peace of Rep. Eric Cantor’s office, as well as other places on both sides of the political line, will not subside. According to CNN, Cantor says that his home office in Richmond, Virginia had a bullet shot “through the window”. Before that happened, he says that he had received many threatening messages, messages which he won’t make public since he fears that doing it publicly might inspire others to commit other violent acts against himself or other republicans.
Cantor claims that Democrats are ‘fanning the flames’ of violent acts
That’s what Eric Cantor says DNC chair Tim Kaine and Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland are doing: using threats made against pro-health care reform Democrats as a rallying cry to somehow strike back. Washington politics catchphrase now is Violence begets violence, and Cantor has said on the record “Enough is enough.” Whether or not people need cash now, they shouldn’t have to worry about fringe groups keeping their elected officials from representing them accurately.
Democrats are employing bodyguards
What is taking them off the rational discourse and straight to the expressway of lunatic fringe? Over 10 democrats have been harassed according to Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the House Majority Leader. They’ve been harassed to a point that they become afraid for their safety, making it important for them to hire more security staff. Broken windows, a cut gas line at Rep. Tom Perriello’s brother’s home and various illiterate threats seem to come down to who was in favor of health care reform in the end. The pay day loan industry has never faced anything this brutal.
So much sweat and blood
Once, Oscar Wilde wrote that “When liberty comes with hands dabbled in blood, it is hard to shake hands with her.” Depending upon what side of the fence one resides on health care reform – supporting imperfect change with the possibility of future advances, or fighting to the last breath to stop the supposed socialist agenda – a person could say that bloody liberty isn’t worth it in this case. However, others might gladly shake, then lick the blood clean from their hands, savoring each drop. What kind of America do you would like for your children?
